The Mechanism of Football Helmets
A football helmet is a protective gear worn on the head of a player to save the player's head from serious injuries that might be incurred while playing a sport as physically demanding as football. It is generally made of metal or some other hard substance to ensure safety especially from high-speed collisions during the game.
The traditional football helmet consists of various components, among which are: the shell, face mask, chin strap, jaw pads, air bladders, and mouth guard.
The helmet shell comes in four diverse models, upon which the choice is dependent on the size and style for each player. Shell size is calculated with a pair of calipers, which measures the player's head.
After determining the proper shell, padding is then incorporated within the helmet for a more proper fit into the player's head. The padding can either be in foam-rubber pads or in inflatable air pads. Another add-on to ensure proper fit is the jaw pads which, when properly attached, makes sure that the bottom proximity of the helmet is snug.
The player can choose among 15 different styles of face masks that is most suited to him or her. The chin strap has also six different styles. To make sure that the face mask stays tightly in place when the game's in motion, the player wears a mouth guard. This part is crescent-shaped and is usually made of plastic with a strap on its extremities.
Football encompasses a variety of team sports which involve people playing on foot. All football games are a contest of scoring points with a spherical or ellipsoidal ball. Moving the ball to a designated area, which is defended by the rival team, is the game's scoring system. The objective of this game is to move the ball by kicking, running with, or passing and catching it. The win is determined by whichever team has the most points in an agreed specified length of time.
