Kamaishu teaches you how to use blood glucose test strips correctly

Blood glucose meters have become a popular tool for people with diabetes due to their convenience, speed, and reliability. Now, many individuals can monitor their blood sugar levels from the comfort of their homes, making daily management much easier. As a result, understanding how to properly use this device is crucial for effective diabetes control. Proper handling of blood glucose test strips is essential for accurate results. Always check the expiration date before using a strip, and never use expired ones. Store the test strips in their original container, away from extreme temperatures—ideally between 2°C and 30°C. Avoid exposing them to dust or moisture, as these can affect the chemical reaction needed for accurate readings. Keep the test strip area clean, and avoid touching it with your fingers. Regular cleaning with mild water can help maintain the integrity of the testing surface and prevent errors in measurement. It's also important to take good care of the blood glucose meter itself. Protect it from dust and moisture, and store it in a temperature-controlled environment between 10°C and 40°C. Be mindful of electromagnetic interference, which may affect the device’s performance. When collecting blood, position your hand correctly—palm down, finger extended, and the other fingers slightly curled like an orchid. The puncture site should be at the lowest part of the finger so that the blood flows naturally. Typically, the fingertip is the best location, but avoid areas close to the nails to reduce the risk of infection. It’s recommended to consistently use the same finger, especially the ring finger, for more reliable results over time. After collecting the blood sample, disinfect the area with 75% alcohol. Wait until it dries completely before using the lancet provided with the meter to prick the skin about 2–3 mm deep. Allow the blood to flow naturally onto the test strip without squeezing or forcing it. Avoid any excess tissue fluid, which could interfere with the reading. This careful process ensures that the blood glucose level is measured accurately, helping you make better-informed decisions about your health.
