In today's fast-paced world, color trends are everywhere, shaping the way we design and create. From the 21st to the 22nd, the "Precision Development, Winning in Application" event and the Quanzhou Industrial Design Teacher's Lecture Hall brought together over 200 designers from the home goods industry to explore the latest color forecasting with AJ Shipp, a renowned Dutch color trend expert. The session provided valuable insights into upcoming color trends that could influence product design and consumer preferences.
Organized by the Quanzhou Economic and Trade Commission, the event attracted participants from various sectors, including textile bags, rattan and iron crafts, ceramics, and wooden products. Industry professionals from Guangdong’s Chaozhou and Zhejiang’s Taizhou also joined, showcasing the broad interest in leveraging trends for business success.
The lecture focused on how understanding consumer behavior can drive design innovation. As one of the organizers explained, AJ Shipp, the design director at 3HOUSE, a leading global household products agency, emphasized the importance of aligning design with current trends to stay competitive. The goal was to help companies better grasp market demands and use design as a powerful tool to gain an edge in the industry.
As summer moves forward, home goods manufacturers are preparing for another wave of product development, especially ahead of the Autumn Fair. Zhou Jianhong, CEO of the Process Resource Network, highlighted the importance of collaborating with international trend agencies to guide product development and boost competitiveness in European and American markets.
Under the theme of "Learn the Trend and Enhance the Value of Design and Application," AJ Shipp discussed three key themes: "Nature and Nostalgia," "Hidden Mystery," and "Scandinavian Craft." He explored how colors and materials influence design, analyzed past trends from 2015 to 2016, and shared practical methods for creating modern, aesthetically pleasing soft furnishings.
Unlike previous lectures, this event offered more than just theory—it included live demonstrations of trending home accessories and soft materials. Representatives from the Surface Effect Processing Center provided detailed explanations on applying these trends effectively, offering technical guidance for real-world implementation.
During the interactive session with AJ Shipp, many designers shared their challenges and sought advice on overcoming obstacles in their creative processes. Weng Shiying, deputy general manager of Dexin Weaving Co., Ltd., attended the entire event and expressed her commitment to building a brand focused on customized home products. She emphasized the growing demand for individualized designs and the need to stay aligned with global color trends to meet higher expectations.
