We had a long weekend coming up because of the Bank Holiday, and I thought it would be a nice idea to get everyone involved in making some handmade birthday cards. Since the girls absolutely adore Minions, it seemed like the perfect theme for our crafting session. The best part? We decided to create Minions using fingerprint art, which is super easy and fun for kids to do themselves.
To start, we picked out some bright colors—yellow and blue for the Minions, and purple for the evil one. We used red cardstock for the background since it really made the yellow pop. Acrylic paint worked best because it's vibrant and sticks well, although it can be a bit tricky to clean off, especially for younger kids who might need help.
The first step was dipping our fingers into yellow paint and pressing them onto the paper to form the Minions' bodies. Then, we used a smaller finger dipped in blue paint to add their overalls. Once those were dry, we added the finishing touches—googly eyes glued on with a tiny brush and facial details drawn with felt-tip pens. For the googly eyes, we used a matchstick to apply the glue since they’re so small.
What’s great about this activity is that you have creative freedom. If you're aiming for a polished, Pinterest-worthy result, you can always touch up the faces yourself. But if you'd rather let the kids take full ownership of their artwork, just step back and let them go wild! I personally love both kinds of cards—the neat ones look impressive, but the ones that come straight from the heart are the ones that truly matter.
One of the twins got extra creative and painted half her Minions blue and the other half yellow. Her card even ended up being backwards, but honestly, that just added to its charm. Another cool idea is to encourage older kids to give their Minions unique personalities by adding more intricate details or accessories.
In the end, we added a clever pun at the bottom: "One in a Minion." It was such a fun family activity, and the results were adorable. These cards are not only cute but also meaningful because they were made with love.
Pin this for later if you're looking for a fun and easy craft idea!

This project reminded me how simple crafts can bring so much joy. Whether it’s for birthdays or just for fun, these cards will definitely stand out!
