There's a wide variety of milk available on the market—whether it's cow's milk, goat's milk, or other animal milks—to support overall nutrition. However, many people still prefer breast milk, believing it to be the most natural and beneficial option. According to a report from the US-based website "odditycentral.com" on February 25, drinking breast milk has become a growing trend among bodybuilders, who claim it helps accelerate muscle growth.
It’s been widely reported that many fitness enthusiasts are convinced that consuming breast milk is one of the most effective ways to increase muscle mass. Some even go to great lengths to obtain it. A simple Google search reveals numerous online forums and articles promoting the idea of breastfeeding for muscle gain. Some websites even claim that breast milk is the best form of nutrition ever created.
Unsurprisingly, this rising demand has led some young mothers to sell their excess breast milk. Some of them participate in online breast milk banks, earning up to $1,200 per month (approximately 7,500 RMB). While most of these services are intended for babies, some sites have special sections catering to adults seeking breast milk.
Some mothers choose to sell directly through online platforms. For instance, Lisa, a mother from Michigan, sells her extra milk via an online marketplace. She learned about the trend from a cousin who was into fitness. Lisa said she stores milk regularly, as her fridge is now overflowing. She also mentioned that she avoids alcohol, drugs, and takes various vitamins daily to ensure the quality of her milk.
She explained that her cousin told her adding breast milk to protein shakes is more beneficial than using regular protein powder. The taste, she said, is similar to regular milk but slightly sweeter. Many buyers remain anonymous, often contacting sellers discreetly to avoid being identified. Proponents of the practice argue that breast milk contains hormones and nutrients that are beneficial for human development, suggesting that what helps a baby grow can also benefit adults.
Others believe that breast milk may help with skin conditions, though bodybuilders typically use it to make yogurt. However, not all bodybuilders are on board with the trend. Austin, a fitness enthusiast, said: “People want to get stronger and build more muscle, but hearing about testosterone and orangutan hormones is confusing. Using breast milk to look better is something I never expected.â€
While breast milk is ideal for newborns and offers numerous health benefits, there is currently no scientific evidence supporting its effectiveness for adults. Joanne Ransom, medical director at the Northwestern Mother’s Milk Bank, warned: “Breast milk is designed for babies. Buying it online is risky because it may carry infectious viruses like HIV. Plus, online sales of breast milk are not regulated, and in the U.S., it’s actually illegal.â€
