US Army Survival Handbook - Co-existence with Nature (2)

Ignition

The ignition should be started from the windward side, but before the ignition, make sure that you have set down the velvet, ignition materials, fuel wood, to ensure that the fire burning time can be as you need.

Do not waste matches, lighter fuel, or fireworks. If there is a candle, light a candle. Because it burns for a long time, you can save your match and lighter fuel for later use.

If you don't have matches, lighters, or fireworks, you can use other materials (Figure 9-6) to ignite, but remember that you need good velvet and a suitable fire.

Convex lens. This method is only suitable for sunny days and it takes a certain amount of time. Convex lenses can be used with binoculars, cameras, or telescope sights, or with magnifying glass on a compass. Adjust the convex lens so that the sun shines on the velvet. Hold the lenticular lens at this angle so that the light shines on a point until the fire velvet starts to smoke, gently fanning the velveteen, or blowing upwards to make it burn, and the subsequent process is the same as what we have said above. Now.

Metal matches. Put the velvet in the shape of a bird's nest, and then put a dry leaf, or a thin dry bark, or a piece of paper in the middle of the nest. Put the fire down near the fire. Holding a knife or similar tool in one hand, holding a metal match in one hand, placing one end of a metal match on dry leaves (or bark, paper) and using a knife to rub on a metal match like you are cutting Like everything, Mars can splash debris and fire.

battery. You can also use the battery to make sparks, but the technology depends on the type of battery you are using. If it is a vehicle battery, attach a metal wire to each of the positive and negative electrodes. Place the battery so that the metal wire can reach the fire. In places close to phoenix, the exposed parts of the two ends of the wire are in contact with each other, and the resulting sparks will ignite the velvet.

Flintstone and blaze. If you have a piece of steel, such as a blade, and a piece of Flintstone, you can also make Mars light up the velvet. (You can also use a hard rock instead of a flint stone.) Hold the flint as close as possible to the velvet, and hit the flint with the ignite fire. When Mars is produced, it will splash into the center of the velvet.

Bow and drill. This is the last resort to resort to fire. you need to--

A piece of hardwood 2 to 3 feet (0.6 to 0.9 meters) long and about 1 inch and a half (3.5 centimeters) in diameter. This hardwood is used as a bow.

• A piece of hardwood 6 to 9 inches (15 to 23 cm) long and about 1/2 to 3/4 inch (1.2 to 2 cm) in diameter. This piece of hardwood is used for drilling.

• A 2" x 2" x 2" (5 cm square) hardwood for use as a drill cap. (Shells or stones are also acceptable.)

● A 6" x 18" x 1" softwood (the width and length can vary).

● A rope is used as a bow (a shoelace or a belt is also available).

Assemble the bow and drill the steps as follows - (serial omitted)

Fire saw. This is also the last resort to fire. This method is to force two pieces of wood to rub against each other. Cork or split bamboo is a very useful fire saw. If you are using bamboo, the steps are as follows - (serials omitted)

Helpful hints

Collect the velvet at any time and carry it in a waterproof container.

Before the camping, fire ignition materials were collected along the road.

If you have insect repellent, pour it on the velvet, it can make the velvet more easily burn.

Put the firewood in a shelter to keep it dry.

Place damp wood on the side of the fire and leave it for later use after drying.

To make the fire burning all night, add some big wood to the fire and make sure the fire burns to the center of the wood. If you have a charcoal pile that has a good fire, you can put a thin layer of ash on the charcoal, and then add some dry soil, so that the next morning, the fire is still burning.

Before leaving the camp, make sure the fire is completely extinguished.
