Face-to-face tandem bicycles that can both ride back to back [Photos]
A teacher named Chen Xing from Far East University of Technology in Taiwan spent a year developing a peculiar multi-modality collaboration vehicle, which is what we call a tandem bicycle. However, in the traditional tandem bicycle, two people face each other and ride in the same direction. The new tandem bicycle is two people who can either ride face to face or ride back to back.
The multi-modal vehicle is based on two different gear mechanisms with different gear meshes for the rider to select the riding and pedaling direction. By adjusting the direction of the handle, the conventional mode, back-to-back or face-to-face riding mode can be changed to increase riding pleasure. Changing the riding mode does not require any tools and it takes only 10 seconds to complete. The operation is very convenient. The invention won five major prizes including the Sports Gold Medal Award at the Pittsburgh International Invention Exhibition.
