1. CCA is one of the most widely used wood preservatives in the world. For the time being, CCA has the best performance and the most stable performance. Due to the fact that the active ingredients contain arsenic, and some countries prohibit the use of CCA to treat wood because of environmental factors, many people misunderstand that they are poisonous, cause fear, and dare not use them. In fact, this is a lack of understanding of CCA.
In fact, the arsenic element in CCA is in the form of oxidation (arsenic pentoxide). The chemical properties of arsenic oxide are quite stable. After entering the interior of wood cells, they are rapidly fixed on wood fibers to form water-insoluble compounds. It will not be lost with rain or water in the soil, and will not dissolve in sweat or vomit. CCA has been in use for decades, and there are no reports or studies in the world that have demonstrated any harm to humans and animals due to the use of CCA.
So why do some countries and regions prohibit the use of CCA for anti-corrosion treatment? The reasons are as follows:
The so-called CCA is not environmentally friendly. It does not mean that it will cause harm to the environment or humans and animals during use, but because the wood treated by CCA may not be environmentally friendly in the process of treating its waste. Because the arsenic contained in CCA produces harmful gases in the burning of wood, it will cause damage to the surrounding environment. Therefore, the waste of CCA wood preservatives should be treated specially. It is precisely because of this that environmental organizations and individuals in some developed countries have promoted the implementation of the regulations on anti-corrosion wood that no longer uses CCA.
The ban on the use of CCA wood preservatives is also related to the commercial conduct of some upstream preservative manufacturers. Nowadays, CCA products tend to be saturated and profits are transparent. It is necessary for manufacturers to introduce new types of preservatives to complete the upgrading of their products in order to achieve new market share and high profits. As a result, these manufacturers are also pushing the wave of bans on CCA to complete their industry updates.
At present, domestic manufacturers of anti-corrosion wood products are basically processed by CCA. More importantly, the forthcoming China National Defense Rope Specification also clearly states that the use of CCA anti-corrosion impregnation treatment is in full compliance with various environmental protection and safety regulations in China.
2, ACQ advantages and disadvantages
ACQ is a kind of new type of preservative developed in the past 10 years. Its active ingredient has no arsenic. The ammonium in the active ingredient can be decomposed in nature, so it is relatively small in terms of environmental pollution. It cannot be said that it does not cause any harm to the environment because its main active ingredient is copper. When it is disposed of, it cannot be burned casually, and the wood should be specially treated.
ACQ is a new type of preservative, and its research is still not very good at present, especially its anti-corrosion ability has not been finalized. According to a Swedish research institute, nearly 10 years of research on various preservatives showed. The current use of ACQ remains to be further studied.
The main issues are as follows:
The anti-corrosion effect of ACQ on white mold is not ideal, and some mold deposition will appear on the surface of wood.
After ACQ anti-corrosion treatment, the penetration of wood is also difficult to meet the requirement that the sapwood of the wood cannot be completely saturated. Therefore, ACQ-treated wood is generally used in places where it is not in contact with the soil. Preservatives that have not been treated with chromium, arsenic, etc. are somewhat different from those used for CCA-treated wood preservatives, and some deposits appear on the surface of the wood that has not been treated with chromium or arsenic. We take TAANIITH's Type E preservative and ACQ1900 as examples. Although the factory has added many anti-fungal agents to the preservatives, it can still be found that these anti-corrosion wood surfaces are attacked by white rot fungi.
